Brochure - create for stem institute
During my time at CREATE for STEM Institute, I helped to redesign the organization’s brochure.
There were a lot of things in the old brochure that needed a facelift. One of the biggest complaints was that there was simply too much text and not enough images or graphics. The dense text also made the document very long. There wasn’t a lot of branding throughout the document, either. Finally, the text needed to speak to one audience, where the old version tried to reach everyone. Below are some pictures of the older brochure.
My team started by brainstorming what was necessary to put in the brochure and what could just be found on the website. From there, we narrowed down these big ideas into page spreads and laid out what the redesigned document would look like.
I wrote all the text in the redesigned brochure. It was a challenge to take ideas that could be explained best in thousands of words and reframe them in around only 200 words; however, to reach our newly-defined audience of science teachers grades K-12, it was necessary to narrow down these ideas. After several rounds of edits, we were satisfied with our new descriptions.
After the text was done, it was up to the rest of the team to build it into an InDesign document that would become the brochure. I weighed in on the page designs and edited the content once it was up, and I also created the concept map on the center spread and took about half of the pictures featured throughout the brochure.
